Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment
Root Canal Treatment is also called Endodontic Treatment.
If the pulp inside your tooth becomes infected it can spread down the root of your tooth and cause painful abscesses that, if left untreated, could result in tooth loss.
If an infection does occur you dentist may advise you need root canal treatment. This is when they empty your tooth of the pulp, taking away the nerves and blood flow, effectively leaving your tooth dead. They will then fill the tooth and seal with a restoration or crown to prevent any further infections.
Root Canal treatment will take at least two appointments.
1st Appointment- During your first visit your dentist will remove all the infected pulp, drain any abscesses and then clean and prepare the root canal for filling. A temporary restoration will be placed on the tooth whilst the Dentist waits for it to settle.
2nd Appointment- After checking to make sure there is no remaining infection the tooth will be filled with special Gutta Percha Point Filling. The tooth is then sealed with a permanent restoration or crown.
