Crown and Bridge

Crown and Bridge

As we age many of us find ourselves with teeth that are no longer structurally sound. Root canals, lost fillings, decay below a filling, chipping and cracking of the enamel are all things that can lead to large scale defects in a tooths surface. When the entire tooth’s surface is a problem a crown may be necessary. Dental crowns cover the entire visible surface of your affected tooth and add strength, durability and tooth stability.

A crown will take about two appointments that will be required about three weeks apart.

1st Appointment- is to build the tooth up in amalgam and then to shape it. An impression is then taken and sent to the technician for the crown to be made.

2nd Appointment- at the second appointment the crown is cemented into place.

Porcelain, ‘Procera’ crowns are generally used for anterior teeth as there is no metal content and the colour is superior. Where extra strength is required as in posterior areas, a porcelain fused to metal crown can be used.

A Bridge is used when a tooth is missing with good teeth on either side. A crown is put in the space supported by the teeth on either side.
